Barb King was the founder of the Säjai® Foundation, and was passionate about the mission and goals of the Foundation. She strongly believed that we can all make a difference in the lives of children, and can combat the tide of childhood obesity. Through the Foundation she hoped to be a catalyst for change, educate children, and help them on their journey to a healthier life. Barb was also co-founder and president of Landscape Structures Inc. and won numerous awards, including the Small Business Administration’s Small Business Person of the Year for the Midwest region and Business Owner of the Year for the Minnesota chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners. For over 30 years, Barbara was an active advocate for enhancing the lives of all people, especially children, through play and outdoor activities.
Barb's extensive board experience included national boards:National Association of Women Business Owners, Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company and the Landscape Architecture Foundation. She served on the Board of Trustees of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). In addition, she served on state boards, including Volunteers of America Minnesota, Minnesota Safety Council and Minneapolis Community College.
Barb passed away on March 4, 2008. She was an extraordinary woman who will be remembered for her kindness, intelligence, and commitment to the people around her. She will be missed by everyone she came in contact with. One of her greatest achievements was the creation of the Säjai Foundation, which is the result of her passionate wish to help children develop healthier lifestyles.
